What are the different types of braces?
Orthodontic treatment can be carried out using a variety of different dental appliances and with new advances in materials and techniques improving the appearance and comfort of today’s available treatments, at the Orthodontic and Aesthetics Clinic we are happy to provide traditional metal fixed appliances, Iconix champagne braces, ceramic tooth coloured braxes and Invisalign clear aligners.
Today’s traditional fixed metal braces (often known as train track braces) are slimline, unobtrusive and very comfortable to wear. They can achieve excellent alignment of your teeth in a relatively short space of time. They consist of metal brackets bonded to your teeth, joined together with a metal wire.
A popular choice for both teenagers and adults, they can quickly and effectively correct all types of crooked teeth, from minor irregularities to the most complex of problems.
Issues such as excessive overcrowding, irregular or failure of erruption of teeth, increased overjet, or deep overbite are all able to be corrected with fixed braces.
Clear Aligners – Invisalign
No brackets, no wires and almost undetectible!
The Invisalign clear aligner system involves a series of removable, transparent, custom made plastic aligners that gently and gradually straighten your teeth.
Over the course of your treatment you will be given a set of aligners, which look similar to retainers, and which need to be worn for 20-22 hours a day to be effective.
Your speech is not affected and unlike fixed braces, they are virtually invisible. Plus being removable and with no wires and brackets you can take them out for eating and cleaning. There’s no need to change the way you brush or floss your teeth, and the good news is that you can continue to eat all of your favourite foods!
